Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna’s romantic drama ‘Cocktail 2’ has crossed the Rs 50 crore mark worldwide within just two days of its theatrical release . The film, directed by Homi Adajania, registered a strong 20% growth on its second day, collecting Rs 16.25 crore net in India .
According to early estimates from the trade tracking portal Sacnilk, the film’s total India net collection now stands at Rs 29.75 crore, while its domestic gross earnings have reached Rs 35.70 crore . The film was screened across 10,245 shows on Saturday .
Overseas performance boosts total
International markets have also responded positively to the film. On Day 2, ‘Cocktail 2’ collected Rs 8 crore from overseas territories, taking its total overseas gross to Rs 15.25 crore . When combined with the domestic gross of Rs 35.70 crore, the film’s worldwide gross collection stands at an impressive Rs 50.95 crore .
The film opened with Rs 13.50 crore net on Friday, marking Shahid Kapoor’s second-biggest opener after the 2019 blockbuster ‘Kabir Singh’ . It also surpassed the opening-day collection of the original 2012 film ‘Cocktail’, which had earned Rs 10.47 crore on its first day .
Occupancy trends show strong evening shows
On its second day, the film recorded an average occupancy of 30.46% . The occupancy showed a steady upward trend throughout the day, with morning shows at 13.23%, afternoon shows at 31.38%, evening shows at 34.77% and night shows peaking at 42.46% .
A spiritual sequel to the 2012 hit
‘Cocktail 2’ is directed by Homi Adajania and written by Luv Ranjan and Tarun Jain. Produced jointly by Maddock Films and Luv Films, the film is a spiritual sequel to the 2012 blockbuster ‘Cocktail’ which starred Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty .
The story follows Diya (Rashmika Mandanna) and Kunal (Shahid Kapoor), whose decade-long relationship is thrown into turmoil when Kunal’s old friend Ally (Kriti Sanon) re-enters their lives . The film also features Tiku Talsania in a key role, along with a cameo by Pulkit Samrat .
Mixed reviews but strong box office
Despite receiving mixed reviews from both critics and audiences, the film has maintained its box office momentum . Trade analysts predict that the film could earn between Rs 70-75 crore in its opening weekend if it continues its growth trajectory on Sunday .
With no major Bollywood releases in the coming week, ‘Cocktail 2’ has a relatively clear run at the ticket windows . The film’s performance on the crucial first Monday will determine its long-term commercial prospects.
