The stage is set for a blockbuster IPL 2026 final as defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru take on Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. While RCB are chasing a historic second successive title, GT will be eyeing their second IPL crown after their triumph in 2022.
The final pits two teams with contrasting philosophies against each other. RCB have thrived on aggression and relentless intent throughout the season, while Gujarat Titans have relied on structure, discipline and consistency.
RCB’s explosive batting
Royal Challengers Bengaluru have emerged as one of the most explosive batting units in the tournament. Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, Phil Salt, Devdutt Padikkal, Tim David and Venkatesh Iyer have all embraced an attacking mindset, helping RCB post imposing totals regularly.
Captain Rajat Patidar has brought stability and clarity, allowing experienced stars and younger players to flourish. He has scored 486 runs at a stunning strike rate of 196.76.
Gujarat’s top-order consistency
Gujarat Titans have adopted a very different route. Their success has been built around the consistency of Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler.
Gill has accumulated 722 runs this season, Sudharsan has scored 710, while Buttler has contributed more than 500 runs. Their ability to shoulder the batting responsibility has carried Gujarat through several challenging situations.
Playing at home in Ahmedabad, where they have won five of their seven matches this season, will also provide an added boost.
Bowling attacks
RCB’s bowling has been led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who has taken 26 wickets and sits second in the Purple Cap standings. Josh Hazlewood, Rasikh Salam and Krunal Pandya provide excellent support.
Gujarat boast the most complete bowling unit in the tournament. Kagiso Rabada leads the Purple Cap race with 28 wickets. Alongside him, Mohammed Siraj, Rashid Khan, Jason Holder and Prasidh Krishna form a versatile attack.
Key battles to watch
The contest could hinge on several key matchups. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has dismissed Shubman Gill six times in IPL history and will look to repeat that success. Rajat Patidar has never been dismissed by Kagiso Rabada, scoring 56 runs off just 22 deliveries against the South African.
Josh Hazlewood has dismissed Jos Buttler six times across formats and will be crucial in the middle overs. Virat Kohli vs Mohammed Siraj adds an emotional layer, with Kohli never dismissed by his former teammate.
What a win would mean
A second consecutive title would place RCB alongside Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings as teams that successfully defended their crown. For Gujarat, a win would give them their second IPL title in five seasons.
With both teams in red-hot form and the stage set at the world’s largest cricket stadium, the IPL 2026 final promises to be a fitting conclusion to a memorable season.
