Producer Ektaa Kapoor has shared the first glowing review of Imtiaz Ali’s upcoming romantic drama ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’ ahead of its theatrical release on June 12, calling it a film that “stays with you long after it ends.”

The film, set against the backdrop of the India-Pakistan Partition, stars Vedang Raina, Sharvari, Diljit Dosanjh, and Naseeruddin Shah in lead roles .

What Ektaa Kapoor said about the film

In a heartfelt post on Instagram, Ektaa revealed she took an entire day to decide what to write about the film because she “didn’t want to get a single word wrong.”

“A film that the world is going to witness in June, I got to experience in May. And let me tell you, even a month before its release, all I want to say is: you have no idea what’s coming next!” she wrote .

Ektaa described the film as an emotional love story that explores how generations may think, live, and love differently, “yet somehow it all leads back to the same thing: you have to fall in love” .

She added that the film creates “an unheard-of, unbelievable nostalgia” and leaves audiences thinking about “that one person they never got closure with… that one person they left with unfinished promises” .

Calling Imtiaz Ali in “top form” and A.R. Rahman’s music “pure magic,” Ektaa said the film captures a kind of love that existed “when there were no mobile phones, no digital media… just longing, patience, and emotions that stayed forever” .

Ektaa praises Vedang Raina as ‘outstanding breakout performance’

While praising the ensemble cast, Ektaa singled out Vedang Raina as the film’s “surprise package.” She wrote that the actor delivers an “outstanding breakout performance,” noting that she had liked him in ‘The Archies’ but that here he is “truly in top form” .

“He is unbelievably charming, and as a sardarji, he is absolutely going to win hearts!” she added .

Appreciation for Diljit, Sharvari and Naseeruddin Shah

Ektaa praised Diljit Dosanjh for his “restrained performance,” saying he conveys emotion and duality through his eyes while playing a young man struggling to express himself and navigate his relationships .

About Sharvari, she wrote: “Her eyes express every emotion with so much grace and honesty. She has such a strong presence, and she’s definitely someone we’ll look forward to seeing in many more films” .

For veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah, Ektaa simply said he is “an icon” and that words to describe his talent “would honestly feel inadequate” .

Sharvari and Vedang react

The film’s lead actors took to social media to express their gratitude following Ektaa’s glowing review.

Sharvari wrote, “Thank you sooo much ma’am!! This means so much to me,” while Vedang responded, “You’re too kind, thank you so much ma’am” .

Earlier this month, Alia Bhatt had also cheered for the film and its leads. While attending the Cannes Film Festival, Alia shared a video of herself singing along to the film’s song ‘Maskara’ and wrote, “For my alpha @sharvari & my jigra @vedangraina and the ultimate rockstars @imtiazaliofficial & @arrahman” .

At the film’s trailer launch, Sharvari and Vedang expressed their admiration for Alia, with Sharvari calling themselves “Alia Paglus” .
