Chennai, India – As anticipation builds for Suriya’s upcoming family drama Vishwanath And Sons, director Venky Atluri has put to rest speculation about the film’s language. In a recent interview with Galatta Plus, Atluri clarified that unlike his earlier project Vaathi (released in Telugu as Sir), which was shot simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu, Vishwanath And Sons was filmed exclusively in Tamil. The decision, he explained, reflects a shift in audience behavior, with viewers now readily embracing films in languages other than their mother tongue.
“Vaathi was a bilingual film we shot in both Tamil and Telugu, but Vishwanath And Sons was shot only in Tamil,” Atluri stated. He elaborated on his thought process, noting that after making Lucky Baskhar solely in Telugu and seeing it become a blockbuster in Tamil as well, he realized shooting in multiple languages meant extra production days. “People have started embracing films irrespective of their mother tongue. So we made Vishwanath And Sons only in Tamil,” he added. This strategic shift allows the filmmaker to focus on a single, high-quality production while relying on the growing appetite for dubbed and subtitled content across regions.
The film, slated for release on August 14, 2026, follows Sanjay Vishwanath (Suriya), a 40-year-old former international champion attempting a comeback despite failing eyesight. The narrative centers on his complex relationship with Maddy (Mamitha Baiju), a vibrant woman 20 years his junior, leading to emotional conflicts. The supporting cast includes Radikaa Sarathkumar and Raveena Tandon in key roles. Suriya was last seen in Karuppu, directed by RJ Balaji, which ended with a hint of a sequel. He has a packed lineup ahead, with Suriya47 directed by Jithu Madhavan and his 48th film with director TJ Gnanavel also announced. With Vishwanath And Sons now confirmed as a Tamil-only production, all eyes are on its theatrical release.
