The first glimpse of ‘Dragon’, the highly anticipated collaboration between ‘RRR’ star Jr NTR and ‘KGF’ director Prashanth Neel, was unveiled late Tuesday night, just minutes before the actor’s 42nd birthday .

The four-minute and twenty-eight-second video introduces a dark, violent world centred on the global opium trade, with Jr NTR appearing as a ruthless killer standing atop a mountain surrounded by piles of dead bodies .

What the glimpse reveals

The video opens with a voice-over tracing the history of the opium poppy in India, explaining how the British controlled cultivation in Afghanistan and the Golden Triangle region spanning Thailand, Laos, and Burma .

After the British left, the opium business was taken over by rival entities, sparking a war between two major players: the Afghan Trading Company and the Golden Triangle cartel .

Jr NTR as Luger – The actor is introduced as Luger, the “Assassin-in-Chief” of the Afghan Trading Company. He is also referred to as Dragon. His dialogue in the glimpse has already become a talking point: “Devudu naako varamichchaadu. Trigger nokkagaane marchipovadam” (“God gave me a boon — the moment I pull the trigger, I forget everything”) .

Anil Kapoor’s role – The veteran actor plays Raghuveer Rathod, the Chief of India’s Narcotics Bureau, setting up an intense face-off with Jr NTR’s character .

Supporting cast – Biju Menon plays Jaleel Rahman, the Afghanistan Logistics Head. The glimpse also introduces Rukmini Vasanth, Khushbu Sundar, Guru Somasundaram, Ashutosh Rana, and Sidhant Gupta, among others .

Prashanth Neel’s signature style

The visual grammar of ‘Dragon’ bears the unmistakable stamp of Prashanth Neel, known for the ‘KGF’ franchise and ‘Salaar’ . The colour grading, shot composition, and atmospheric darkness mirror his previous blockbusters, though some online critics have pointed to similarities rather than a fresh aesthetic .

One standout sequence shows Jr NTR on a mountain peak, bodies strewn around him – a visual callback to the iconic elevation shots Neel crafted for Yash in ‘KGF’ and Prabhas in ‘Salaar’ .

The Jr NTR-Prashanth Neel hug

As the glimpse was released, the actor and director shared a tight hug, with the makers posting the image on social media and captioning it: “And then, THE HUG” . The moment quickly went viral, symbolising the excitement around their first collaboration.

Jr NTR later expressed gratitude to fans, writing on X: “Watching the response to the #DragonGlimpse has not only brought a big smile to our faces, but has also given us immense confidence and excitement to create an unforgettable experience for you all. And all the credit goes to one man, my PRASHANTH NEEL, who dreamt of Dragon” .

Fan reactions

The glimpse has drawn massive engagement online, with hashtags related to the film trending across platforms .

One fan wrote, “MassGOD of IndianCinema. What a transformation, what a dialogue modulation, what a screen presence. Mark my words #Dragon gonna make history” .

Another praised the technical aspects: “Technically one of the finest things ever. Those night shots have terrific lighting and color grading. The sensational world builder Neel cooked” .

However, some reactions were divided. A section of viewers noted that certain shots appeared similar to Neel’s earlier work, while others raised questions about the visual effects .

Release date and production

‘Dragon’ was originally scheduled to hit screens on June 25, 2026, but the release was later postponed to June 11, 2027 .

The film is produced by Mythri Movie Makers and NTR Arts, with Bhushan Kumar presenting the pan-India period drama. It will release in five languages: Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam .

The music is composed by Ravi Basrur, who scored Neel’s ‘KGF’ and ‘Salaar’ films .

Looking ahead

With the glimpse now out, attention shifts to upcoming promotional materials – posters, teasers, and songs – that will provide a clearer picture of the film’s narrative direction .

For now, ‘Dragon’ has established itself as one of the most anticipated Indian film releases, promising a bloody, brutal, and visually spectacular saga from a director who has redefined mass cinema.
